What to expect from our winter service

Clear pathways and ice-free business premises—companies are legally responsible for this under snow removal and de-icing regulations. If you fail to meet this obligation and customers or suppliers suffer damage, you are liable. To prevent this from happening, we work with you to resolve all organizational and legal issues and offer the following winter services:

  • Conduct site surveys, collect data, and develop snow removal and de-icing plans
  • Gritting and snow removal services during the day—and at night upon request
  • Removing and relocating snow
  • Delivering, filling, and cleaning grit containers
  • Removing grit
  • Removing ice and black ice

All operations are documented — either on paper or digitally. For very large operational areas, for example, telematics systems can be used. We coordinate these and all other terms and conditions individually with you.

The four pillars of our winter services for businesses

Planning is everything. That’s why we start planning for winter as early as summer, rather than waiting for the first snowfall. This ensures we can respond quickly to ice and snow. You can rely on the four pillars of our winter service:

1. Analysis and Legal Framework

  • Review the previous winter season
  • Monitor and analyze legal changes and shifting customer needs

2. Planning and Design

  • Efficiently design new orders/requirements
  • Plan and procure de-icing materials and supplies according to demand
  • Optimizing the deployment of machinery and personnel

3. Technology and operational readiness

  • Maintaining and repairing vehicles, machinery, and tools

4. Qualification and safety

  • Conducting safety briefings in accordance with accident prevention regulations
  • Organizing internal training on snow removal and spreading techniques, machine operation, and occupational safety

What types of de-icing materials are used in winter service?

Depending on weather conditions, the location, and legal requirements, different de-icing agents are used in winter road maintenance. A distinction is made between de-icing agents that melt ice and those that make it slippery. The most common de-icing agent, thawing salt (NaCl), reliably melts ice, is inexpensive, but is corrosive and harmful to the environment. In addition, its use in public spaces is sometimes restricted for private individuals. Pre-wetted salt (NaCl with brine content) adheres better, reduces material loss, and allows for more precise application. For lower temperatures down to -30 degrees, calcium or magnesium chloride are suitable options. Technical urea is considered an environmentally friendly alternative to road salt and is less corrosive.

Where the use of de-icing agents is restricted, abrasive spreading materials such as sand, grit, or mineral granules are used: They increase traction but do not melt the snow or ice and must be consistently swept up and disposed of during thaws.

We document the application criteria and storage of spreading materials in your winter maintenance plan. Contact us now for a free quote!
